Selling your comic book collection? Some tips on how to get started.

Figure out what you have before selling your collection.

You have made the decision that now is the time to let go of some of those comic books or toys that are filling up all of your closet space. Maybe you recently inherited a collection and really have no idea where to start. ​Before calling up the local pawn shop and begging them to please come and take it all away there are a few things you are going to want to do first.

• Figure out what you actually have there. Now I know this is a daunting task if you have a basement full of comic books but there are a few easy things you can do to educate yourself.
• Take a few comic books out of the boxes and look at the covers. Look for the original price on the cover. If the comic books have prices on them of 10 cents, 12 cents or 20 cents you have some comics from the 1940's-1970's and these could be worth money! If you have comic books that are priced at $1.00 up to $3.99 these are very recent and most likely will not have a lot of value.
• Take note of what kind of titles you have. Do you have super-heroes like Amazing Spider-Man, Captain America and Batman? Or are your comics more of the kiddie titles like Archie and Donald Duck. In today's collector market super-heroes are much more sought after.
• Contact an expert like myself to help you with figuring out what you have. Remember that you have no obligation to work with anyone that you talk to. When selling your property information is key! The more information you have ,the more likely you are to get a fair deal.
